QR codes make it easy to send people from a printed item to a website, menu, product page, document, contact card, or short message. A person only needs a phone camera or compatible scanner to open the encoded information. The key is to choose useful content, generate a clear symbol, and test it before sharing or printing it.

1. Open the free QR code generator

Start on the Barcode Generator homepage. In the quick generator, select QR Code from the Format menu. The tool works directly in the browser, so you can start without creating an account.

2. Enter the information you want to share

Enter a complete URL, such as a product page or campaign landing page, when you want people to visit a website. You can also encode plain text or a short instruction. Keep the content as short as practical: shorter data generally creates a simpler code that is easier to scan at a small size.

3. Generate and check the QR code

Select QR Code, enter the value, and choose Generate barcode. Inspect the preview for clear dark modules on a light background. Avoid low-contrast combinations, busy backgrounds, or resizing the finished image until the squares become blurry.

4. Download the image

When the preview looks right, select Download PNG. Use the downloaded file in your label design, poster, packaging artwork, email, or social graphic. Keep a clear border around the QR code; this empty area helps cameras locate the symbol quickly.

5. Test before you publish

Scan the final image with more than one phone when possible. Test the actual printed item as well as the screen version, especially when the code will appear on glossy packaging, curved surfaces, small labels, or outdoor materials. Confirm that the destination URL is correct and works on mobile devices.
