EAN-13 GUIDE
How to Generate EAN-13 Barcodes
Generate a clean EAN-13 barcode after you have the correct product number for the market and retailer that will scan it.
Create an EAN-13 barcode →EAN-13 is a common retail barcode format used internationally. It identifies a trade item with a 13-digit number. Creating the image is straightforward, but the number itself must be legitimate and correctly assigned for a product that will be sold through retail channels.
Start with the right product number
Use the EAN-13 value supplied by your product-number provider, brand owner, or retailer. Do not invent a number for an item that needs retail distribution. Some systems include the final check digit in the value; others calculate it from the preceding digits.
Enter the number carefully
Open the EAN-13 Barcode Generator and enter digits only. The generator checks whether the value has the required structure. Compare the digits against your product record before you generate the artwork.
Generate and download the image
Select Generate barcode, review the preview, then download the PNG. Keep the bars sharp and the surrounding area light. Do not crop too close to the edges, because scanners need the clear area around the symbol.
Prepare it for packaging
Place the barcode on a flat, visible section of the package. Use high contrast and avoid folds, curved corners, seams, metallic finishes, and small type placed over the bars. Ask your printer for a proof before a large production run.
