Barcodes help scanners identify products, shipments, locations, documents, and assets quickly. To make a barcode that scans reliably, start with the barcode standard your system expects. Then use data that fits that standard, generate a clean image, and test the final result in the same conditions where it will be used.

1. Choose the barcode format

Open the Barcode Generator homepage and choose a format from the quick generator. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail product numbers, Code 128 for flexible inventory and shipping labels, Code 39 for simple uppercase alphanumeric values, and QR Code when you need to share a link, text, or other digital information.

2. Enter valid barcode data

Type or paste the value you want to encode. Each format has its own character and length rules. For example, EAN and UPC values use numbers, while Code 128 supports a broad range of text. If a format reports that the value is not valid, check the format guide on the generator page or choose a format that supports your data.

3. Generate the barcode image

Select Generate barcode to create a preview. The generator builds the code directly in your browser. Look for sharp, solid bars or modules with a clear light background and enough empty space around the outside of the symbol.

4. Download the barcode

When the preview is correct, select Download PNG. You can place the image in a product label, warehouse document, package design, or digital file. Avoid stretching the image unevenly or reducing it so much that the bars become difficult to distinguish.

5. Test the finished barcode

Scan the downloaded image with the scanner or phone your customers and team will use. If you plan to print it, test a printed sample too. Printer resolution, glossy materials, curves, poor contrast, and small label sizes can all affect scanning performance.
